Recruitment Process

Stage 1: Application

Applying Following An Advertisement
View job roles on the current vacancies section of the website, apply by downloading and completing an application form.

Applying On Spec
We operate a “recruitment bank” system, therefore we welcome speculative applications. In these instances, we will consider your application and hold your details on file until a suitable vacancy arises.

Recruitment Days/Jobs Fairs
Look out in the local press and on our website for details of upcoming events that we may be involved in.

Stage 2: Contacted

Successful applicants will be short-listed and contacted within 4 weeks of any closing date to be invited to attend an interview.

Stage 3: Interview

Getting the right person is extremely important to us. As part of your interview, you may be asked to carry out a presentation or be given a case study to answer. We may also ask you to spend time at one of our centres, so you may find out more about the role and we find out more about you.

Stage 4: Shadowing

Once we have conducted interviews, we will then shortlist candidates to take part in our shadowing stage. Ideally this will entail you spending a day at the centre for which the role is advertised. During this time you will meet the Performance Manager, other staff and students at the centre. You will also be required to undertake a basic skills assessment to identify your current levels in English and maths.

Just as it is important for us to find the right person, it is also essential that individuals have an insight into Juniper to ensure that we are also right for you!

Stage 5: Confirmation

Confirmation letters will follow for both all successful and unsuccessful candidates who have attended interviews and shadowing stages.

Careers at Juniper

Are we right for you?

  • An extra day off to celebrate your Birthday
  • J-Fit – a scheme where employees participate in 3 x 45 minute exercise activities each week for a year, your reward…..an additional working weeks annual leave!
  • A contributory pension scheme
  • Childcare vouchers; cycle to work scheme
  • Excellent working hours – our core business hours are 8.30 am – 4.30 pm, but we appreciate the importance of a good work-life balance and try to accommodate atypical working patterns wherever possible
  • An annual conference and team building day
  • Extensive training opportunities – both internally and externally, accredited qualifications and a comprehensive competency training plan
  • Regular reviews and development planning to support career development
  • The opportunity to take part in social events / support local charities
  • Employee involvement – we ask for your feedback via surveys, focus groups and programme development and really do listen!
  • And of course, to work with some of the best people in the business and the opportunity to change lives.

Learning and Development

Juniper offers all new and existing staff the opportunity to learn and develop. As our business is focused on delivering good quality training to help people to change their lives, it is vital that our staff feel competent within their roles. Training is available from your first day with us and continues throughout your employment via internal and external training. Training is delivered by our HR Team as well as by staff who have been highlighted as having an expertise in a particular field. Here are some of the opportunities available to staff:

New staff induction
Every person that is offered employment with Juniper is required to attend a one day induction. This takes place at our Central Support Services office in Wolverhampton and gives all staff the opportunity to meet the senior management team.

During induction, you will cover:

  • The history of Juniper
  • The structure of the company
  • Relevant information on staff benefits
  • Staff training opportunities

When starting at your centre you will be able to shadow a staff member of the same role and also learn from staff in other roles to ensure that you are fully aware of the student journey. Staff are encouraged to visit other centres where possible to learn about them and help build relationships.

Induction Plans
You will be given an Induction Plan on day one of your induction. Induction plans identify key areas of specific job roles giving you the opportunity to learn about all aspects of your job. This enables us to identify any training needs you may have. Once these are identified, you can attend various internal/external training sessions to improve your knowledge, confidence and ability.

Competency is demonstrated once all areas pertaining to the specific job roles have been signed off – this is achieved through providing evidence and regular discussion. Juniper continues to support and develop staff throughout the six month competency period to ensure staff are fully competent in their job roles.

Internal Training
Throughout the year various internal training courses are arranged for you to attend. These courses are published so that staff are aware of up and coming sessions and can arrange their own training. We ensure we cover all areas to help support you when carrying out your job.

External Training

Staff are encouraged to highlight any external training that they feel will help them within their role.
Many of our staff have gained various qualifications such as:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training
  • Literacy and Numeracy
  • Equality and Diversity
  • NVQ’s
  • Management
  • Subject Specialisms
  • Level 3 Award and Level 4 Certificate in Education & Training
  • CIEAG

I have worked in the Welfare to Work / Adult Education Sector for 13 years and have received training on every subject you can imagine. The thought of having to do another Safeguarding and Health and Safety course didn’t exactly fill me with joy. However, I must say that I have been very pleasantly surprised at the nature and standard of in-house training that I have received since starting work here.   I particularly enjoyed Health and Safety as a fresh approach was brought to what can otherwise be a very dry subject.  I also found the SpLD training very informative and the delivery excellent.

I am impressed with the variety of training that I can access, which I am sure, when taken in their totality, they will only serve to improve my delivery and ultimately assist our students in reaching their goals.

Work Experience

Juniper recognises that there are probably many people that are interested in working within a teaching environment, however without the relevant qualifications or experience it can be difficult to get your foot in the door.

We have decided to give the ‘right’ people the opportunity to gain experience within a training environment. This will involve candidates spending time at one of our centres, shadowing current staff and the opportunity to partake in sessions or one to one reviews with students and being part of the Juniper team.
The ‘right’ candidate will demonstrate:

  • Flexibility
  • Positive attitude
  • Drive and determination
  • Potential to develop
  • Commitment
  • A friendly and approachable personality
  • Bags of common sense
  • Integrity

The benefits for candidates undertaking work experience with Juniper are obviously to gain experience and skills within the teaching environment. Candidates who can demonstrate the right attitude and skills will be given the opportunity to apply for any internal vacancies that are available at Juniper.

Juniper will arrange to interview all candidates that are short listed and you may also get the opportunity to spend a morning/afternoon in centre to ensure you are ‘right for us’ and that we are ‘right for you’.

If this is something that you are interested in, please contact Work Experience Enquiries  sending your CV.

Temporary Contracts

Juniper is now offering temporary/short term contracts. As a training provider we need to be able to quickly react to change. We are sometimes required to recruit at short notice or cover periods of absence; therefore we would like to hear from anyone who would be available to work at short notice and is willing to be flexible. The working pattern available would be dependent on the role at that time, and of course your availability.

The ideal candidate would be:

  • Flexible
  • Available to work at short notice
  • Be able to work on an ad-hoc basis
  • Not reliant on a regular income
  • Positive, friendly and approachable
  • Have experience of our client group (desirable)
  • Have relevant qualifications (desirable)

The recruitment process will be an initial interview and if successful, candidates will be invited to shadow at a centre for either a morning or afternoon to get a feel for the environment.

Successful candidates would then be added to our recruitment bank so that we could record what role they would be able to cover and which centres they would be willing to travel to. We would then contact candidates when work was available.

If this is something that you are interested in, please contact Temporary Contract Enquiries attaching your application form.

I’ve worked for Juniper since leaving College at the age of 17. I started my journey as a Marketing and Recruitment Apprentice.

Juniper supported my career from day one; enabling me to continue my education – I completed qualifications in ICT, Youth Work, Drug Awareness, LMI Level 5, Careers Information, Advice and Guidance to Level 6, Mentoring and  Counselling.

I’ve recruited, supported and guided young people to overcome personal, social barriers and to find employment and Apprenticeship opportunities.

I was promoted to a Training Centre Manager and I started my Manager life in Wednesbury; I completed a year before opening a brand new training centre in Telford.

Since having my Daughter in 2011, Juniper supported my application to return to work part time in the Training and Development team based in CSS. I loved being in this role as it meant I worked with all centres to train and support new staff.  I’m currently working as the Employer Engagement Manager. I build relationships with organisations and National Employers to seek opportunities for our students. No two days are the same and if you want to get up in the morning and feel like you are making a difference, there is no better job!

  • CIEAG
Kamla Devi, Tutor, Juniper Wednesbury

Juniper StaffI have worked in the Welfare to Work / Adult Education Sector for 13 years and have received training on every subject you can imagine.

Temporary Contacts

Tammy Boydon, Employer Engagement Manager, Juniper Head Office

Juniper StaffI’ve worked for Juniper since leaving College at the age of 17.
